7/29/1988Syed Modi, 28-year national badminton champion, was shot dead at K. D. Singh Stadium in Lucknow.
7/29/1988Sher Shah Sur died. He was fatally wounded in an explosion on Kalanjara fort while preparing for an attack. He introduced the new silver rupee-coin ""Rupiya"" based on ratio of 40 copper coin pieces (paisa) per rupee and built several roads including the longest road of India known as Grand Trunk Road (now Natioinal Highway-2).
4/26/1858Kunwar Singh, revolutionary of Indian mutiny and freedom fighter, passed away. He fought his last battle near Jagdishpur, Bihar on April 23, 1858 and defeated the Britishers but was deeply wounded. He also organised the national rebels.

4/5/1908Babu Jagjivan Ram, valiant freedom fighter, was born in Chandwa village in Bhojpur, Bihar. He held many prominent ministerial portfolios such as Communications Minister (1952-56), Railway Minister (1956-62), Food and Agriculture Minister (1967-70) and Defence Minister (1970-74). After 1977, he became the Deputy Prime Minister (Defence) in Janta regime. Thereafter, he established Congress (J). His uninterrupted representation in the Parliament from 1936 to 1986 is a world record. This day is commemorated as ""Samta Diwas"".
