6/11/1983Ghanshyam Das Birla, great freedom fighter, social reformer, pioneer of Indian business, industry, and nationalist, died at London at the age of 89.
3/24/1977Morarji Desai elected leader of Janata Party and sworn in as the Prime Minister of India at New Delhi. Later he formed his cabinet. He was in the office of Prime Minister till July 28, 1979. This was first non-Congress Government in India.
4/10/1875Swami Dayanand Saraswati established the Arya Samaj at Bombay and in 1877 in Lahore.
12/5/1905Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, was born in Soura, Srinagar, Kashmir.

4/1/1933Indian Air Force was established at Drigh Road in Karachi (now in Pakistan). Subroto Mukherjee and four other officers were inducted as pilots when the first Indian Air Force Squadron was formed. The first aircraft flight joined the Indian Air Force, at that time it possessed a strength of six RAF-trained officers and 19 Havai Sepoys (literally, air soldiers); its aircraft inventory comprised four Westland Wapiti II. A army co-operation biplaned at Drigh Road as the ""A"" Flight nucleus of the planned No.1 (Army Co-operation) Squadron.
