Historical Event on 2/1/1942

17 Indian Division's were withdrawn over vast stretches and the British evacuation in Burma was the longest in British military history. The Division was to subsequently extract terrible retribution from the Japanese Army during World War II and to destabilise the Indian Economy with forged notes of 5, 10 and 100 Rupees.

12/13/1899Sher Shah Sur died. He was fatally wounded in an explosion on Kalanjara fort while preparing for an attack. He introduced the new silver rupee-coin ""Rupiya"" based on ratio of 40 copper coin pieces (paisa) per rupee and built several roads including the longest road of India known as Grand Trunk Road (now Natioinal Highway-2).

4/9/1756Ali Bardi Khan of Bengal passed away in Murshidabad. His youngest daughter's son Siraj-ud-Daulah was crowned as King of Bengal when he was merely 20 years old after the death of King Tartar.
11/11/1866Patthe Bapurao (Shridhar Krishna Kulkarni), famous poet Shahir, was born.
9/17/1948The Nizam of Hyderabad, in a broadcast, announced ceasefire to his troops and accession into Indian Union, which was settled earlier to the announcement.
12/12/1964HJT-16, the first Indian jet trainer, made its inaugural flight.
2/21/1997J. M. Lyngdoh appointed Election Commissioner.
9/13/1990An attempt to hijack a Coimbatore-Bangalore-Madras Indian Airlines flight IC 534 to Sri Lanka.
