New Delhi, March 25 (IANS) The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has sought Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) and Transport Department's response on a petition seeking direction for dealing with the End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs).

End-of-Life Vehicles are motor vehicles categorised as waste, generally due to age or accident.

A bench of NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel was hearing a petition filed by the Society for Alternative Fuel and Environment (SAFE), which stated that the ELVs are being disposed of and scrapped in Delhi's Mayapuri industrial area, hence causing environmental damage.

The tribunal directed, "To consider the above, it will be appropriate to require a factual and action taken report in the matter from Commissioner, Transport Department, Delhi and DPCC jointly."

The tribunal sought the report within one month and listed the matter for further consideration on May 22.
