New Delhi, Feb 20 (IANS) A Delhi court on Thursday sought response from the Tihar jail authorities on an application seeking one of the death-row convicts, Vinay Sharma, to be shifted to a hospital for treatment of injuries he sustained in jail.
Vinay attempted to hurt himself by hitting his head against a wall in Tihar jail, earlier this week. Additional Sessions Judge Dharmendra Rana sought jail's response and posted the matter for February 22 at 12 p.m.
The petition, moved by A.P. Singh, sought a direction to shift Vinay to Delhi's Institute of Human Behaviour & Allied Sciences (IHBAS) for "high level treatement".
The counsel contended that the convict has suffered injuries in his right arm, has mental illess and schizophrenia. "He could not recognize me or his mother," he told the court.
The Public Prosecutor, however, opposed the application and questioned its maintainability.
Vinay has exhausted all this legal remedies. He, along with three other convicts, are scheduled to be hanged on March 3.
One of the convicts, Pawan, has yet not availed the remedy of either curative or mercy petition.
The case pertains to the gang-rape and murder of a 23-year-old girl in the national capital in December 2012.
