3/23/1947Mian Tansen, a prominent figure of North Indian (Hindustani) classical music and famous singer of Akbar's court, died at Gwalior. Tansen is remembered for his epic Dhrupad compositions, creating several new ragas, as well as for writing two classic books on music Sri Ganesh Stotra and Sangita Sara.
1/26/1993Sub Lt. Rubi Singh of the Navy becomes the first woman in India to lead an armed force contingent in the Republic Day parade at New Delhi; British PM John Major attends as the first ever British head of Government as Chief Guest.
