Historical Event on 1/30/1948

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the spiritual leader of Indian independence, was shot and killed by a Hindu extremist. The 78-year-old Gandhi was shot at point-blank range as he was walking through a garden to a pergola, where he was to deliver his daily prayer meeting.

10/1/1854Postal stamp introduced in India. These lithographed stamps were of denominations of half anna and one anna. These stamps bore the Head of Queen Victoria with India at top and value at bottom. The half anna stamp was printed between May 5 to July 29 and printing of one anna stamp commenced on July 26.
10/1/1854Admiral Dom Vasco-da-Gama (c.1469-1524)-I, Portuguese navigator, arrived in India. He sailed around the Cape of Good Hope to Calicut, Kerala with three vessels and was the first Westerner to sail to India from Europe.

12/16/1922Parvati Devi, orator, was arrested for delivering revolutionary speeches in meetings at Hapud and Merrut. She was the first Indian women to get two years long imprisionment during the freedom struggle.
8/10/1904Japanese troups were defeated by the Russian Amry at Port Aurther.
