Security Council takes up India's complaint charging Pakistan with aggression in Kashmir.

5/25/1965Independent India had further clashes with Pakistan in 1965 and 1971, one over the intractable Kashmir dispute and the other over Bangladesh. A border war was also fought with China in 1962 in the North-Eastern region, which resulted in the loss of Aksai Chin in Ladakh and smaller areas in the North-east. India continues to dispute sovereignty over these areas.
6/28/1972Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis died. He was the first founder of Indian statistical Institute to receive world recognition. In 1958, he started his national sample surveys. A Sample survey means assessing a situation by studying a part of it which would represent the whole, some of his proposals were included in the second five year paln. His original work made him elected as fellow of the Royal society in 1945.

5/27/1964Gulzarilal Nanda was entrusted the responsibility as Acting Prime Minster of India. He held this office till June 9, 1964. He is till date the only Acting Prime Minster of India.
12/29/1938Mahavir Prasad Dvivedi, famous litterateur, writer, poet and editor, died at the age of 74.
1/22/1922Shanta Buddhisagar, famous Marathi writer, was born.
