4/10/1919Miss Mercia Sherwood, an English teacher, was assaulted by a mob in Amritsar. Brig. General. R.E.H. Dyer had given instructions to beat her.

1/28/1998All 26 accused, who stood trial in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, were sentenced to death. A designated Judge of the TADA court in Chennai found them guilty.
6/5/1984Operation 'Blue Star' was launched by Indira Gandhi. Indian commandos stormed into Sikh's holiest gurudwara Golden Temple in Amritsar to flush out the terrorists and other anti-government elements. Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and over 325 people were killed in the temple. Thus a great rebel arose all over the nation and specially in Punjab.
